A Tutorial For Using the dApp Faucet To Test TimeNode Functionality

This tutorial will teach you how to get test ETH and DAY on the Kovan test network in order to prove ownership of DAY to be a TimeNode in a test environment. Another tutorial teaches the details of how to do that process once you have real or test DAY tokens.

First, get the MetaMask extension for Chrome here if you don’t have it yet.

There are several ways to get test ETH on the Kovan test network, however the most stable is currently the “Gitter Method”.

Use your Github or Twitter account to sign in at https://gitter.im/kovan-testnet/faucet

Copy your Kovan ETH address by clicking on your MetaMask Chrome icon. It looks like this:

Once you’re in the chat, post your Kovan ETH address into the chat and the bot will automatically assign you 5 Kovan ETH. It looks like this:

Then go to https://app.chronologic.network/faucet

It looks like this:

It can be accessed by clicking the faucet tab on the left side at App.ChronoLogic.Network

Next sign into your MetaMask account by pressing the MetaMask icon in your browser.

It looks like this:

Next enter your password and choose the Kovan Test Network from the dropdown. It looks like this:

The “Remaining Wait Time” circles may still be loading but try clicking on the “Get Test Day” button on the bottom right of the page. It looks like this:

The MetaMask user interface will pop up and Gas amount will autopopulate. (This is why you need test ETH before you request test DAY.)

Click the green “submit” button. It looks like this:

If the transaction was successful you may see a green bar appear briefly.

Otherwise, to check your test DAY balance, click on your MetaMask icon in Chrome and then click “Add Token”. It looks like this:

Then add the token address: 0x5a6b5c6387196bd4ea264f627792af9d09096876 and the token symbols DAY and click “add”. It looks like this:

You will see your test DAY token balance. It looks like this:

You must have prove 333 DAY tokens to run a TimeNode. Go to this tutorial to learn how to prove DAY token balance.

You can learn more about TimeNode architecture on this webinar recording. We invite developers to collaborate on the Ethereum Alarm Clock here.

Thanks for participating in this exciting new way of scheduling future transactions on Ethereum. We look forward to the Ethereum Alarm Clock going live on the main net so that TimeNodes can execute transactions and collect bounties while they help people get their payments and smart contracts executed when they need them.
